Is APR effective?

     It has been shown that APR is most effective withing 24 hours of taking the first abortion pill, and still effective even at 72 hours. It is crucial to begin as soon as possible. Is APR safe? Are there side effects to the baby with APR?

     APR involves taking progesterone, a hormone already naturally produced in the body to support the pregnancy. Women who have had a history of miscarriages are often prescribed progesterone to increase their chances of carrying to term. Progesterone in APR is taken to counteract mifepristone (the first abortion pill), which cuts off nutrient supply to the pregnancy. There are no current studies to suggest that progesterone produces any side effects in pregnancy.

How will I know if APR worked?

     If the process of miscarriage does not occur during the pregnancy, it is an indicator that APR was effective. An ultrasound can confirm whether the pregnancy is still viable (heartbeat is still present).
