Ultrasound
The pregnancy test is a sure way to know if your HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels are elevated. However, even a medical grade pregnancy test should be followed up with an ultrasound that will give you more information about your pregnancy. At Phoenix Women’s Clinic, we provide this ultrasound exam at 7 weeks after your last normal period.
What to Expect from an Ultrasound
An early ultrasound exam will check the viability of the pregnancy, which will tell you if the pregnancy is progressing in a normal fashion or if you are at risk of a miscarriage.
Measurements will be taken to ensure your dating is correct. Women can get surprises both directions. Sometimes a missed period is because of stress, and she is not as far along as she thinks. Other times women have bleeding during pregnancy and find out that they are further into the pregnancy than they first thought.
The ultrasound is also a way to make sure the pregnancy is in the uterus, which is where it should be.
We do not do ultrasounds for gender information.
Cost
Phoenix Women’s Clinic’s ultrasound is $30, and we do ask you to have a positive clinical pregnancy test before the ultrasound. It is possible to do both services on the same visit.
Start with a free pregnancy test and in the additional note field, let us know that you desire an ultrasound at the same visit. It is best to schedule the pregnancy test early in the day to get the ultrasound on the same day.
