Vaginal Infection

Vaginal infections can be caused by bacteria, fungi, parasites, or viruses. Some of these are normally living in your vagina without causing a problem. But sometimes they can over grow, causing an infection in your vagina and vulva. A vaginal infection is not the same as a urinary infection (UTI). 

Symptoms may include itching, burning, irritation, unusual discharge, a “fishy” smell, or other strong vaginal odor. Vaginal odor usually occurs because of a pH hormonal imbalance which might also cause these symptoms. A change in the normal balance of vaginal bacteria, an infection, or reduced estrogen levels after menopause can also cause vaginal discomfort.

At Phoenix Women’s Clinic we test and treat:

  • Yeast infections
  • Bacterial Vaginosis
  • Trichomoniasis
  • Bumps, rashes, and lesions

Some causes of vaginal infections include:

  • Sexually activity especially if you have had a recent change in partner.
  • Using vaginal hygiene products like douches, soaps, bubble baths, deodorants, vaginal washes and wipes
  • Taking antibiotics.
  • Some types of birth control, including IUDs.
  • Having a health condition that affects your immune system, like diabetes or HIV
  • A foreign object (forgotten tampon) or substance such as spermicide or soap left in the vagina
  • Staying in a wet swimming suit for a prolonged period.

Depending on your diagnosis of vaginal infection our provider can send a prescription of medications to ,your preferred pharmacy.

The cost of the office visit for a vaginal infection is $35. This includes testing for yeast, Bacterial Vaginosis, and Trichomoniasis. This does not include lab fees. If you are at risk of a STD/STI you can get this lab work for an additional fee.
